100,000 BOOKS ARRIVE IN LEBANON!

News Update from Libraries for Peace Project:

Children with new booksSchools Receive Books!

September 20th, 2008 Libraries for Peace Project volunteers, along with help and book donations from Global Book Exchange of Novato, loaded two 20-foot containers of books for shipment to Lebanon. The books arrived at the port of Beirut October 9, 2008.

They were released immediately and transported to a warehouse in a newly built school in Soufar, Lebanon. From there, the books were distributed to over 150 schools throughout the region. The impact of this delivery was realized immediately.
After a 12,000 mile journey, the precious cargo of  100,000 + books are in the hands of those who need them most.

Why Books?

The mission of the Libraries for Peace Project is to bring educational materials to children of the Middle-East beginning with Lebanon and expanding from there to surrounding countries. It is the belief of the LFPP that exchanging books for bombs will make peace not only possible, but eminent. The next goal for Libraries for Peace Project is to complete a computer lab in Lebanon within the next year. Please help us achieve this goal with your donation.

Aref and niece

In October of 2008, president of Libraries For Peace Project, Aref Ahmadia, fulfilled a dream towards his visionary goal: to make certain that every child in Lebanon, and later, the entire Mid-East, has a dictionary and a start in the quest for knowledge.

This non-political and non-religious offering to the people of Lebanon and the Mid-East comes at a time when education is key to the peace process. Libraries for Peace Project has been working towards a non-violent means to assist the people of Lebanon and the Mid-East achieve peace they so urgently deserve.
